Futures Fins is one of the two most innovative fin brands when it comes to building fins. What a lot of people don`t know, is that fins are a very important part of your quiver. When you are unsure about the performance of your surfboard it is considerable to try some other Futures Fins or FCS fins. This can totally change the performance of your surfboard. When looking for a new Futures Fins set, it`s important to do some research in fin shapes.
The first question that you have to ask yourself is: which fin characteristics do I want? When you figured that out, you have to find out which kind of shape (template) fits the best into the wished characteristics. After that you decide what kind of foil you`d prefer. Futures fins is having 4 types of foils: Flat foil, V2 foil, V foil and tow foil. Every foil has got its own characteristics.
Futures Fins has applied ride numbers to their fin sets to make it easier for you to decide. The Ride Number is describing the feeling of a set of Futures fins. The closer the Ride Number gets to 10, the more speed the fins will add to your board. This fins are recommendable in weaker waves to build up speed more easily. The more the ride number gets to 1, the more control the Futures fins will add to your surfboard. This fins can be recommendable for more powerful waves which are generating speed by their selves to give you extra hold and a more solid feeling. Futures fins with a ride number around 5 are more all-round and will strengthen the original characteristics and feeling of your surfboard.
Bigger fins will give you more hold into the water, keep in mind that a board with a wider tail is having less hold in the water. This can be compensated with bigger fins, this will give you more hold and lift. You can also take away hold by using smaller fins.
